Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito, 'KCR 11.18.92

I've never listened to this show, with the exception of snippets that KBL had on a tape. On it, you'll find my main stain Crazy Legs of Rock Steady, an unsigned group named Ruffneck Bastards, The Coup, Casual from Hiero, and a funny as ever Rhythm X aka Kool Keith, who rhymes, takes over the hosting duties and then takes phone calls with us for the last hour or so. Maybe tomorrow night/Friday morning at 1 AM, you could press play and zone out as if it were live. The Digable Plantets joint was for Kurious. He was feelin' that, so I figured I should play it. What was I thinking? And peep how there is absolutely no music for the last hour for crunch time- calls and bullshitting for an hour acapulco. Who was the tired dj?

Busy B vs. Kool Moe Dee, Live at The Harlem World, 1982

At the risk of catching flack, I always felt that Kool Moe Dee just wasn't the man. All respect is given for his old school pioneer status as a part of The Treacherous Three, and for "Do You Know What Time It Is" and "Go See The Doctor." He could hang with Busy B, who was more of a party rocker, but when he went at LL? Game Over.

Whoa!

Shout to my man Nick Catchdubs from The Fader for posting this blog on thefader.com. This thing started as a lark, but I can see where it's going. It reminds me of the early days of KCR when we had no clue what we were embarking on. Many of you have already posted comments in which you have referred to your tape collections. Which gets me to the point - I'M MISSING MANY SHOWS AND I'D LIKE TO GET THEM! See, when the show was in it's early days, we didn't know how precious the tapes would be. If any of you have shows and would like to discuss how we can get them digitized, and how I can get my hands on them, let me know. You can email me directly here.

DJ Hollywood Joints

Now I must admit that my favorite years in hip-hop were '86-'88, but still, these gems are milk. One is an unreleased version of a joint you may have heard before on bootleg or on Tuff City; the other was a single on Spring.

RUN over a "never heard before" instrumental version of "My Melody"?
This gives me the chills. I guess I'm chillin'.

Spoonie G vs. Schoolly D

...very old beef. This goes back to a time when emcees would barely even curse on record, yet sounded so much more gangster than dudes nowadays. I mean, Spoon didn't even mention Schoolly by name. Still, I gotta give the edge to Schoolly School for the ill dusty record cover illustrations and labels which he designed himself, and for the self-produced beats which were more than up to par with the heat Marley Marl was bringin', and that's sayin' much.

January 13th...This just in- I just learned from a first-hand witness that at the time that the photo for Spoonie G's dodgy cover, he didn't even know how to drive.
